Since completing my first degree in Physiology and Pharmacology many years ago I have had a rich and varied portfolio career. I started my professional career as a Careers Advisor and fell into training and development when asked to train careers assistants working towards NVQ qualifications where I worked. I quickly realised that I really loved this aspect of work and self-funded firstly a training qualification and then a postgraduate diploma in HR. Since then, I have continued to work in organisational development, now amassing over 30 years’ experience.
Most of this time has been spent in HR, leadership development and service improvement in large NHS organisations and educational institutions working up to board level as the OD lead, or as freelance consultant. I have held roles that have had national and international impact. I worked for NHS Improvement as the regional lead for the delivery of the staff health and wellbeing national improvement programme across NHS providers. I spent time in Botswana working with Addenbrookes Abroad and the Botswanan Ministry of Health on a project to develop a Leadership Academy for managers across the Botswanan healthcare system to improve maternity mortality rates.
